Wildlife Overpass Construction Pauses For Winter | KAFF News Extra

December 1, 2025 – Construction on the long-awaited I-17 wildlife overpass south of Flagstaff halted for the winter season last week, but continues to progress steadily, with major structural components nearing completion and full functionality expected by mid-2026. The $15.8 million project, funded largely through a federal highway administration wildlife crossings pilot program grant, was designed to significantly reduce vehicle-wildlife collisions while reconnecting habitat long divided by the interstate. There is no scheduled date for the project to resume after the winter season, but it is planned to continue once weather conditions are suitable.

A man has been arrested in Kingman on felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death or injury. 43-year-old Gilbert Roy Selina fled after he hit 42-year-old Robert Lee Tighe with his vehicle. Despite attempted life-saving measures performed by first responders, Tighe was pronounced dead at the scene. Before he was arrested, Selina admitted to deputies that he had hit Tighe, but claims that another vehicle had already struck him before. This incident is still under investigation.
