Live updates: Winter storm barrels into the Northeast, threatening havoc for morning commute

The lion’s share of the storm is moving into the Northeast this morning, and that means a slow commute for millions. Here’s what to expect.

• Buffalo, New York, and Cleveland: Light snow is falling, so travel will be slowed throughout the morning in both cities along the shore of Lake Erie. Snow will taper off around 10 a.m. ET in Cleveland, but it will last bit longer in Buffalo until around lunchtime.

• Pittsburgh: Cameras from PENNDOT show snow-covered roads in the metro area. Up to 2 inches has fallen so far and steady snow will continue through the commute before tapering after 10 a.m. ET

• Baltimore and Washington, DC: A cold rain is falling that will continue through the entire morning commute. Temperatures are just a few degrees above freezing, so both cities will escape wintry weather.

• Philadelphia: It’s dry right now, but a cold rain will arrive during the morning rush and then continue throughout the day. A brief period of snow or sleet could happen when precipitation starts falling along I-95, but it shouldn’t be a travel concern.
