Ski resorts could finally see beneficial snowfall.

BOISE, Idaho — WHAT/WHEN: A plume of Pacific moisture will arrive in eastern Oregon and parts of southern Idaho late Thursday, with widespread precipitation expected across the lower elevations by early Friday. Precipitation will start off as showers and will develop into light but steady rainfall Friday night into Saturday morning, tapering to showers by Saturday night.

Snow will likely start falling in the Blue Mountains of Oregon and the West Central Mountains of Idaho by Thursday afternoon, with a couple inches of accumulation possible before the wet weather arrives in SW and central Idaho overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

  • Snow-covered and slick roads above ~5,000’, especially on higher passes.
  • Reduced visibility during heavier snow bands.
  • Light but steady rainfall may lead to areas of ponding on roadways.
  • Reduced visibility due to rain and low clouds, especially during early morning and evening commutes.
  • Rain may disrupt outdoor events, sports, or construction projects across lower elevations.
  • Plan extra travel time, and check 511.idaho.gov for road conditions in Idaho and TripCheck.com in Oregon
  • Prepare for mountain trips by ensuring you have warm layers, waterproof boots, traction devices, and emergency supplies if traveling in the high country
  • Have a “rain friendly” backup plan and be ready to modify or postpone outdoor activities
  • Keep the umbrella on hand as you head out
